OUR FREE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY! As part of the Global Wind Day activities, WindEurope and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have launched a global photo competition: “Wind Vision.”
Wind energy provides jobs and regional regeneration as well as providing global export markets. Wind energy helps us meet our climate change commitments and speed up the move to a low-carbon economy. Wind energy should be the backbone of how the globe generates its power. This is our #WindVision The photo contest aims to draw the attention of the public and policymakers to wind energy and the power it holds to alleviate many social, economic and environmental challenges. Creativity, content, composition and technique as well as a compelling story behind your photograph are the key criteria for the judges. The three categories are: 1. Local Impact Wind energy boosts the local economy and provides jobs, as well as improving infrastructure and supporting the local community. In this category, your photos should show how wind energy has benefitted your community. 2. Boosting Economies The wind energy industry is growing rapidly, employing over a million people across the globe. In this category, your photos should represent people working in the industry, factories or in wind installation. 3. Visionary Wind Windfarms signify real progress towards a sustainable energy system. Not only that, together with the natural environment they can make stunning images. In this category, your photos should show how wind energy is living in harmony with the rural environment. The first prize winner from each category will receive €1,000. In addition, the winning photographs will be displayed at the WindEurope Summer Reception in Brussels and across both WindEurope and GWEC’s channels. Our free photography contest recommendation of the day! Pushing the limits of creativity
The ZEISS Photography Award is now in its third year – and is calling on ambitious photographers from across the globe to present their work around the theme “Seeing Beyond – Untold Stories” to the international jury of experts. The focus of the photo series should be on stories that have not yet been told (or have not yet been told to the end). The theme “Untold Stories” can and should be understood in the broadest sense – the works can examine the familiar from a new perspective or cover topics that have not received much attention up until now. The goal is for photographers to push the creative boundaries and surpass themselves photographically. The ZEISS Photography Award is jointly organized by ZEISS and the World Photography Organisation. Last year, around 4,700 photographers from 132 countries submitted more than 31,000 photos. Photographers are asked to submit a series of 5 - 10 images, including a description of the images, online. Entries close February 6, 2018. The 2018 brief "Seeing Beyond - Untold Stories" requires photographers to present a strong series of 5-10 images that look beyond the ordinary and every day. “Untold Stories” is intended to be understood in its broadest sense - the work could explore a familiar theme told from a different perspective or it could address an issue that has previously had little attention. All forms of photography are welcome and judges are specifically looking for series of works that have a strong narrative. The "Untold Story" that the photographer presents must be visually clear in the submitted images. Prizes The winner and the shortlist with up to ten photographers will be announced on April 3, 2018. The winners will receive attractive prizes, including ZEISS lenses of their choice with a total value of 12,000 euros as well as 3,000 euros to cover travel costs for a photo project. The awards ceremony will be held in London on April 19, 2018, as part of the Sony World Photography Awards. The winning photos and the selected photos from the shortlist will simultaneously be presented at the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at the Somerset House in London, with the winner participating in the exhibition opening. In addition, ZEISS will invite the winner to the company’s headquarters in Germany. Here they will gain insight into the world of ZEISS and can familiarize themselves with ZEISS lenses. In addition, they will also have the opportunity to personally work with ZEISS and the World Photography Organisation. Our free photography contest recommendation of the day! Photographers are enouraged to submit entries year-round. We also particularly welcome entries that depict corruption and human rights violations in the developed world. Each winning photograph will receive CAD $1,000 and be featured on the Allard Prize website, with a brief description and the photographer’s name, for six months. Winning entries will be archived as a past winner on the website afterward. The full terms and conditions can be reviewed here. Winners are selected twice a year, shortly following the submission deadlines of May 1st and November 1st. Winning photographs are announced on our galleries page and promoted on our social media channels. Our free photography contest recommendation of the day! For this round, we want to see your landscape photographs. Landscapes require the application of the most fundamental rules of photography. The scene is made or unmade by the light and requires that you learn to break down the scene, and mentally reduce it to its most essential components in order to make sense of chaos. No matter what kind of location you’re shooting, planning is a must, so make sure you know the area. Are you in the best position relative to the light and composition? How does the weather affect the scene? And try to shoot in raw as you’ll have a lot more information to work with in post-production. While a shallow depth of field can look beautiful, also try maximizing your depth of field. There’s nothing more breathtaking than a sharply focused landscape. The panel's 1st place photographer will win over £1000 of Sigma products, and the crowd's 1st place will win year-long subscriptions to Amateur Photographer magazine and Photocrowd.
